David Ng, CFA, Deputy Managing Director & Chief Investment Officer
David Ng joined AHAM Asset Management Berhad (“AHAM Capital”) (formerly known as Affin Hwang Asset Management Berhad) in 2002 as Head of Equities and assumed the role of Chief Investment Officer in September 2006. In January 2018, he was made joint Deputy Managing Director, while retaining his position and responsibility as Chief Investment Officer. He personifies the investment-led culture of the firm. David has been responsible for successfully steering client portfolios through different market cycles including periods punctuated by periods of significant volatility and uncertainty. His astute and decisive guidance has allowed the Company to remain ahead of its peers. More than a decade later, he has built the investment team from just four fund managers to a 46-strong team (as at May 2020) across equities and fixed income. Under his foresight and vision, the team has evolved from having a domestic focus to one with regional investment capabilities and corresponding track record. During the period when he was managing Malaysia Equities, he garnered investment awards for a number of consecutive years from the largest pension fund in Malaysia. He also leads the Asia Equities team. The investment team’s search for alpha is centred around an absolute return investment philosophy. He encourages his team to have a 360-degree perspective by focusing not only on finding good ideas, but keeping their ears on the ground and their eyes to the world as well as being forward looking. He graduated with a double degree in Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) and Bachelor of Law from Monash University in Melbourne, Australia; and is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder. He started his career at a large law firm before venturing into fund management with a local bank backed fund management house in 1998.
Esther Teo, CFA, Senior Director, Fixed Income
Esther Teo brings with her more than 18 years investment experience in managing both institutional and unit trust funds. She joined AHAM Capital in January 2004 as a portfolio manager responsible for managing the fixed income portfolios for the Malaysian institutional and unit trust funds. She is recognised by Asian financial markets specialist, The Asset, as one of the most astute investors in Malaysian Ringgit Bonds and most astute investor in Malaysia for the Asian G3 Currency Bonds categories respectively. The funds she and her team manage are constantly ranked amongst Malaysia’s top 5 and are well known for their consistent performance track record.
Prior to her tenure at AHAM Capital, Esther was attached to the fixed income desk of RHB Asset Management Sdn. Bhd. covering both institutional and unit trust mandates. She began her career in KPMG Malaysia as a consultant in financial advisory services specialising in corporate debt restructuring and recovery.
Esther graduated from the University of Melbourne, Australia with a Bachelor of Commerce degree majoring in Accounting and Finance and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder.
